Mongolia quarantine details

Mongolia is major restrictions for travel. Mongolia travel restrictions from Hungary

International travel to Mongolia is not permitted. Exemptions are in place for nationals and residents of Mongolia.

Exceptional travel

Exemptions to the border closure are in place for long-stay and business visa holders. Travel for tourism is not permitted.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to quarantine for 3 days on arrival at a government-approved hotel. A PCR test will be administered during the quarantine period and those testing negative will undergo further home quarantine for 7 days. Travelers testing positive will be transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be presented on arrival.

Testing on arrival

Travelers are required to undergo PCR testing on arrival.

Government measures

The Government of Mongolia has placed the country under an “Orange Level” status or “partial heightened state of readiness” and gatherings are currently banned. Although restrictions are gradually lifting, they may be re-introduced at any time and preventative health measures remain encouraged. We recommend keeping up-to-date with official guidelines throughout your trip.

Use of masks

Face masks are required in public spaces, enclosed environments, and on public transportation.

Public transport

Public transportation may be operating with limits to capacity in place. Domestic flights and rail routes are currently suspended until further notice. Proof of full vaccination might be required for inter-city travel.


Restaurants are open with social distancing measures in place.


Bars are open with social distancing measures in place.


Nightclubs are closed to limit the rate of transmission.


Shops and services are open with adapted safety measures in place, such as the use of hand sanitizer and social distancing.

On return

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, are exempt from testing and quarantine requirements.
The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days before departure.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be provided on arrival. Travelers may instead provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. This will require proof of a positive test result, taken at least 14 days before arrival and not more than 180 days.
Test results must be in Hungarian or English and should be issued in a country within the European Union, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A full list of countries and exemptions can be found in Hungarian at
Travelers without health documentation may not be allowed to enter or will be required to self-quarantine for 10 days. The quarantine period can be shortened if 2 PCR tests are confirmed negative once in Hungary, 48 hours apart and within the first 5 days.
