Get import & export customs regulations, restricted items and food restrictions before travelling to Taiwan. Items allowed to import is Goods for personal use up to a value of NT$10,000 per piece. Prohibited items is Illegal drugs, such as heroin, morphine, opium, cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamines. Some of restricted items are The import of wild animals requires a permit issued by the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan.

Import Regulations

Free to import items into Taiwan

Tobacco

  • 200 cigarettes;
  • 25 cigars; or
  • 1 pound of tobacco.

Alcohol

  • Foreign Currency exceeding US$10,000 or its equivalent must be declared.
  • Up to NT$100,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this amount requires a permit from the Central Bank of China (Taiwan) in advance.
  • Up to RMB20,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this amount must be declared, and will be placed in bond for subsequent return abroad.
  • Gold up to the value of US$20,000.

Currency

  • Foreign Currency exceeding US$10,000 or its equivalent must be declared.
  • Up to NT$100,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this amount requires a permit from the Central Bank of China (Taiwan) in advance.
  • Up to RMB20,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this amount must be declared, and will be placed in bond for subsequent return abroad.
  • Gold up to the value of US$20,000.

Other items

  • Goods for personal use up to a value of NT$10,000 per piece.
  • Other articles for personal use, apart from those above, their total value not exceeding NT$20,000 per passenger.
  • Samples carried by a passenger with a total value of NT$12,000.

Prohibited items into Taiwan

  • Illegal drugs, such as heroin, morphine, opium, cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamines.
  • Firearms, ammunition, bombs and explosives, assault knives, and other weapons of war.
  • Pirated and counterfeit goods and currency.

Restricted items into Taiwan

  • The import of wild animals requires a permit issued by the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. Endangered animals, plants, and their derivative products protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) may require protected species permits.

  • Fruits and plants must be imported in accordance with the Plant Protection and Quarantine Act.

  • Unaccompanied baggage must arrive within 6 months of thepassenger, and the passenger must have declared the contents of thebaggage on their entry.

  • Local currency over NT$100,000, foreign currencies over US$10,000 or its equivalent, or Chinese currency over RMB20,000 must be declared.
  • Commercial samples or dutiable items such as personal computers, professional equipment for photography and cameras intended for return to Taiwan must be declared.
