Thailand travel restrictions from Japan

International travel to Thailand is permitted. It is necessary to comply with requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Open with conditions

If a country other than Thailand or those on the 'allowed list' has been visited in the previous 21 days, travelers will be required to undergo quarantine for 10 days and take RT-PCR tests on arrival and on the eighth or ninth day after arrival. This does not apply to travelers on the Phuket Sandbox program.

Other restrictions

All foreign travelers must provide proof of travel insurance which includes full coverage for COVID-19 for a minimum of $50,000 USD for COVID-19 medical costs and accommodation.

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers are required to present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine. All vaccines approved by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) or the World Health Organization (WHO) are accepted.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to quarantine for 1 night at a pre-booked approved government facility or until a negative result is confirmed from the RT-PCR test taken on arrival. Those traveling under the Phuket Sandbox program are required to undergo quarantine for 7 days. Phuket Sandbox or Samui Plus travelers are required to stay at approved facilities for their respective programs. Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative RT-PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be provided on departure.

Testing on arrival

An RT-PCR test will be administered on arrival and an AKT self-test must be taken on the sixth or seventh day after arrival. If a positive result is received, travelers must follow the instructions of health officials.
Those traveling under the Phuket Sandbox program will get tested on arrival and on the sixth or seventh day after arrival.

Other medical measures

All passengers are subject to health screening on departure and on arrival, such as temperature checks and visual assessment. Further health testing may be required for those displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Additional documents required

Travelers are required to register for Thailand Pass before travel. The Thailand Pass QR Code received will be required on departure and on arrival.

On return

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, can shorten the 14 day quarantine period by taking a test on day 10 of the quarantine period. Those with a negative result will be released early.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival, at a private residence, or in a designated facility. Public transport must not be used during this 14-day period.
Vaccinated travelers may undergo testing on day 10 and will be released early if a negative test result is confirmed.
